Shimla Ram Mandir Hall controversy: Booking cleared with conditions amid objections
Shimla, April 7,
A situation of concern has emerged in the State capital after objections were raised over the booking of a Sood Sabha-managed community hall for a private wedding related dinner function, with authorities stating that the matter is under watch to ensure law and order.
As per available information, a hall located Ram Bazar of Shimla managed by the Sood Sabha has reportedly been booked for a wedding related function scheduled on April 11 by a family belonging to another religious community.
Objections have been expressed by members of a group identified Hindu Sangharsh Samiti, who have submitted a memorandum to the hall management. The group has reportedly raised concerns regarding the use of the venue and indicated that it may register its protest.
In response, representatives of the Sood Sabha have stated that the hall has historically been made available for social functions to individuals from different communities, subject to standard conditions applicable to all bookings.
They maintain that the booking has been found to be in line with existing rules and is set to be honoured. However, certain conditions and assurances have been factored into the decision to ensure that the event remains within the prescribed norms of the trust.
It is learnt that the core ceremony associated with the wedding is proposed to be held at a separate location, while only a Vegetarian dinner function is expected to be organised at the premises in question.
It is also understood that the family which has booked the hall has been residing in Shimla for several decades. Sources further indicate that the venue has, in the past as well, been used for functions by families from different communities, in accordance with its established norms.
Observers point out that the limited availability of budget-friendly banquet spaces within the city limits often results in such community halls being used for a wide range of social functions.
Meanwhile, Gaurav Singh said that the police are aware of the situation and are closely monitoring developments. He added that necessary steps are being taken to ensure public order is maintained.
