Himachal Pradesh Police have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking, leading to the seizure of more than 112 grams of heroin (chitta) and opium in three separate operations in Mandi and Shimla districts over the past two days.
The biggest recovery was made in Mandi district after a road accident exposed an alleged drug trafficking operation.
According to police, a young man and a woman involved in a vehicle crash in the Balh area on Sunday evening attracted suspicion among locals, who believed they were under the influence of intoxicants.
The police were informed and, during a search of the vehicle, recovered 57.79 grams of heroin, 3.81 grams of opium and other materials allegedly used for drug consumption.
The accused, identified as Yashpal of Balh and Shabnam of Dharampur in Mandi district, were arrested.
A case has been registered under Sections 18, 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act and Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
In another major seizure, the Special Cell of Shimla Police recovered 48 gms of heroin from a passenger travelling in a Punjab Roadways bus near Shoghi on June 8. The accused, Vicky (31), a resident of Patiala district in Punjab, was arrested and remanded to police custody until June 10.

Earlier, on June 6, the Spl. Cell recovered seven grams of heroin from Sunil Kumar (31), a resident of Theog, during checking of a Haryana Roadways bus near the Taradevi bifurcation on National Highway-5. He too was arrested and remanded in police custody till June 10.
With a combined recovery of nearly 116 grams of narcotic substances, the latest operations underline the scale of drug trafficking challenges facing the state. Police officials said investigations are continuing to identify the supply networks and possible links between the accused.
