Shimla Court convicts driver in fatal road accident case, sentences him to one year jail

Shimla, July 24
A court in Shimla has convicted a man in a fatal road accident case, sentencing him to one year of simple imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000.
According to a press release issued by Shimla Police, the conviction was secured due to effective investigation, proper collection of evidence and strong judicial advocacy by the prosecution.
The accused, Sunil Kumar, 45, son of Amar Singh and a resident of Shimla district, was facing trial in a case registered under Sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
The judgment was delivered by the Court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC-5), Shimla, on July 24. The court found the accused guilty and awarded him one year of simple imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs 10,000.
Shimla Police said the conviction reflected the quality of the investigation carried out by the investigating team and the effective presentation of evidence before the court by the prosecution.
The police stated that careful collection of evidence and coordinated efforts during the trial played a key role in securing the conviction.
The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring strict enforcement of traffic laws and taking legal action against those responsible for negligent driving that endangers human life.
They also appealed to motorists to follow traffic rules and drive responsibly to help prevent road accidents.
