Shimla, Jun 17
The State Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission has slapped a notice to Indus international university regarding illegal withholding of documents of about 40 students. The Commission served the notice to this private university based at Haroli in Una, on Jun 14 seeking clarification within three days.
Secretary of Himachal Pradesh Private Educational institution Regulatory Commission issued a notice to Registrar Indus International University, Una seeking that it has received a representation from Ex-employee of IIU Vinod Thakur that the university withheld original documents of about 50 students.
The commission in one page letter issued to IIU on Jun 14 demanded clarification within three days failing which necessary action may be initiated against the university. The complaint alleged that IIU is adopting malpractice by misusing the scholarship scheme facility provide by the Government for upliftment of student belonging to SC,ST and OBC category.
The victim students were admitted on zero tuition fee basis on the pretext that the tuition fee would be taken from Govt. Certificate of some students who took admission but later left the IIU to study elsewhere were detained by the private university which is illegal. Besides, to top it the private university administration demanded Tuition fees from even those students who had left the institution and never attended any classes.
The complaint stated, that approximately 40 students had taken admission in 2017 but had left the course, they neither attended any classes
nor appeared in any examination but the private university still withheld their original documents and applied for the scholarship on their behalf.
It is to be mentioned the scholarship of those students were applied who were not studying in the university, which is a fraud .
The University withheld the original documents and applied for the scholarship on it’s own behalf. Scholarship, since, are received in student’s accounts. Therefore the University retains the original documents as security to be returned only after taking tuition fees.
The complaint alleged that every year the university is claiming such scholarships and recovering the money from students by blackmailing them on account of original documents. The practice is adopted by the university year after year. The complaint has demanded enquiry against the IIU, stating to recover the scholarship fee from the university.
The commission earlier had also issued a six page order on Jun 4 on the basis of a complaint filed against IIUÂ for withholding original certificates or documents of a student including 10th & 12 Marks-sheet, caste and income certificate, Himachali Bonafide, Adhar Card and PNB Pass book.
