Shimla,Aug 16
District Administeration Lahaul Spiti district said on Monday that half of the blockage is opened by the natural flow of Chenab river however concave shape sliding still exists on the spot and Administeration should keeping watch the situation.
Deputy commissioner Lahaul Spiti district Neeraj Kumar said that a team comprising Director Central Water Commission N.N.Rai, Director, CWC, Shimla, Piyush Ranjan, Asstt Commissioner Keylong Rohit Sharma, Indian Army Col Arun, Inspector of NDRF, Sandeep Kumar Rawal, Nayab Tehsildar Udaipur Ramchandra Negi visited the land slide site on river Chandrabhaga on Sunday.
The team found that more than fifty percent blockage has already got removed naturally by the river. The velocity of flow at the blockage location is in the range of 6 to 7 meter per second.
” Due to land slide, a natural bench of about 20m width and about 45 to 50 m length has formed which would provide the space to accommodate the material falling due to further land slide. “
” The concave shape of the sliding plain shall also provide some space to accommodate the further sliding material hence, further complete blockage of the river in case of land slide at the same location is less likely.”
“The sliding material is having the majority of finer grain composition and any material further coming in the river will get washed away by the running water.” the report prepared by the team mentioned.
The situation seems to be normal at present, however the administration need to be watchful for further slide, DC added.
A report arriving here said that Hindustan Tibet National Highway No-05 is blocked for heavy vehicles due to landslide near Choura Barrier Tehsil Nichar .
