The body of a local youth was recovered today from the glacial Chandertal lake of Lahaul Spiti district by the rescue team. The deceased Rahul Thakur (40) belonged to Jagatsukh of Manali. Reportedly, deceased was roaming near the lake, when he slipped and could not be saved.
Deputy commissioner Lahaul Spiti Neeraj Kumar said that rescue team succeeded to trace the body of youth in the freezing cold lake and body was sent for postmortem to subdivision Kaza.
Deputy commissioner advised the tourist and locals to be careful while going near the banks of the lake. DC also cautioned people to be careful before venturing out to such remote locations during the monsoons as heavy rain fall may be highly dangerous and risky for lives, here.
The tough hilly terrain in the state are highly vulnerable places and govt has already banned the most of Adventurous activities like paragliding and river rafting etc. The trekking and pilgrimage to Lake and snow points are still allowed and flock of tourists often climbs too high to fathom the high-altitude.
With opening of Rohtang tunnel the Lahaul Spiti tourist circuits have become largely popular. Due to which Surajtal, at the base of Baralacha pass, Chandertal lake, number of Buddhist Monasteries in the region have started getting a lot of visitors.
