Drought situation worsens in HP as Largely deficient rain and snow was recorded for the month of March this year, said the Indian Meteorological Department in a monthly Weather report issued here today.
Shimla IMD incharge Manmohan Singh said that largely deficient precipitation occurred in the month of March-2021 as state received 41.7 mm rain against 110.9 mm normal. It is 62 per cent less than normal precipitation. Met Office said that the month had 13spells of precipitation out of which only 5 spells provided fairly widespread to widespread precipitation.
District wise
Round the month all districts in state witnessed either deficient or largely deficient precipitation. Seven district were large(60 to 99 pc) deficient and five district deficient (20 to 59 pc).
Kangra district was most draught hit with 84 p c deficient rain ( recorded only 13.2 mm against normal 80.9 mm), Hamirpur 79 per cent deficient ( 12 mm and 57.3 mm) Sirmaur 77 p c (11 mm and 46.9 mm) Bilaspur 74 p c (15.9 mm and 60 mm), Una 71 p c (12 mm and 41.6 mm), Solan 67 pc (19.3 mm and 58.5 mm) Chamba 62 p c (53 .5 mm and 140.3 mm), Kinnaur 58 p c(49.7 mm and 118.5 -58 mm), Shimla 41 p c ( 49.7 mm and 84 mm ), Lahaul Spiti 40 p c(66.2 mm and 158.7 mm), Kullu 40 p c ( 74.1 mm and 124.1 mm)
Mandi 40 p c (42.9 mm and 71.1 mm) respectively.
Past record
During the past years, highest rainfall viz 190.8 mm (+82 per cent ) was recorded in HP during March 2015. And Lowest rainfall viz 0.5 mm ( minus 99 per cent ) & 4.7 mm (-96 per cent ) were recorded in 2004 & 2008 respectively.
Highest Maximum Temperature of 36 degrees each was recorded at Una on 30th Mar 2021 & lowest minimum temperature of minus 5.8 degrees was recorded in Keylong on 24th Mar 2021.
