Reportedly State Vigilance and Anti corruption bureau grilled former Chief secretary P Mitra here today. SA&ACB sources inform that Mitra was summoned to Police Station at 1600 hrs and interrogated in a violation matter of sec 118 of 2010 when Prem Kumar Dhumal was chief minister and Mitra was Principal Secretary Revenue. Allegations have been leveled on Mitra for violating section 118 of the HP tenancy and land reforms act 1972.
The action by the Anti-corruption not only put Mitra under the scanner of murky deal moreover it may dig out the role of about 18 other incumbent and erstwhile officers in the matter. During one year tenure as Secretary Revenue Mitra had allegedly given permission to 250 people in 2010 under Sec 119.
Earlier too Vigilance Department registered the case in this matter however due to some reason it has filed closure report in the court on May 25 this year.
However as the concerned court passed stricture against the probing officer, agency has decided to reopen the case launching fresh investigation. SV& ACB sleuth reportedly re-interrogated about 24-25 people in the matter and sources state that notices have been issued to conduct the live Detector Test on nearly 17-18 people.
Sec 118 was being relaxed to the influential people to buy agriculture land in the state as successive government has amended this sections about eight to nine times to appease the cronies and facilitate powerful peoples including political leaders, businessmen and industrialists.
Mitra also served as chief secretary of Himachal Pradesh from May 2014 to May 2016 as he was appointed state Election Commissioner by Virbhadra Singh government on his retirement on May 30 , 2016 .
