The former Governor of Manipur and Nagaland, former CBI director and former DGP of Himachal Pradesh Ashwani Kumar has committed suicide. As per initial reports Kumar was found hanging at his residence in Brockhurst this evening. Though the reasons for death are yet to be ascertained but by the time of filling of report the body of deceased is being taken to the State hospital for postmortem. Reportedly the deceased has left a suicide note behind.
70 year old Kumar was born in Sirmour. He was a 1973 batch IPS officer and remained at important positions like CBI director and part of security for former PM Rajiv Gandhi.
Pertinent to mention that deceased Ashwani Kumar after completing the tenure as governor worked with AP Goyal university at the position of pro Chancellor and then later Chancellor. The said university has been under scanner for alleged involvement in the fake degree scandal.
