Justice Surendra Singh Thakur, former Himachal Pradesh High Court judge and president of Defenders of Human Rights (DHR), an organization working for human rights, has written a letter to Chief Minister Jairam Thakur urging that the cases of violation of rules in funeral of the corona victim youth in Shimla should be investigated. In press statement issued by Purushotam Chaudhary, Advocate, High Court,the former judge said that the district administration in this case has violated the guidelines of the Central Government.
Former Justice Thakur, in a letter to the Chief Minister, said that the last rites of the youth were performed at midnight which is an open violation of the guidelines issued by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on March 15 regarding the deaths of COVID-19. He said that in these guidelines it is clearly written that the dead body of the deceased should be handed over to his family members. Or it should be kept in the morgue. All religious customs should be followed by taking necessary precautions in the last rites.
He told the Chief Minister that in view of the seriousness of the matter, an inquiry should be ordered immediately against the officer who insulted the body.Â
