Shimla, Jan 31,
The Himachal Pradesh government has banned all forms of physical punishment in schools. The order, issued under the Right to Education Act, 2009, aims to create a safe and nurturing learning environment for children.
The move comes in response to concerns about the harmful psychological and emotional impact of corporal punishment on children. It prohibits any form of physical punishment and holds school heads accountable for any violations.
While welcomed by many, some teachers expressed concerns about disciplining students without physical means. The government has emphasized the need for training teachers in alternative disciplinary techniques, such as positive reinforcement and conflict resolution.
This ban aligns with global efforts to create child-friendly classrooms and marks a significant step towards a more progressive and compassionate approach to education in Himachal Pradesh.
