Himachal gears up for wet spell as IMD issues alert for rain, snow from Jan 31 to Feb 2

In a ray of hope for rain starved Himachal Pradesh an alert has been issued as meteorological department forecasts an impending wet spell from 31stJanuary to 2nd February 2024.
In the advisory they stated that two consecutive Western Disturbances are expected to bring light to moderate precipitation, with districts including Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, Kullu, and higher reaches of Mandi, Kullu, Shimla (including Shimla city) likely to experience one or two spells of heavy rain/snowfall.
The advisory warns of occasional thunderstorms/lightning and gusty winds in mid and high hill areas during this period. The average maximum temperatures are anticipated to be below normal, with normal minimum temperatures for low hills and below normal for mid and high hills.
Amongst Impact of this weather the advisory stated possible disruptions in essential services such as water, electricity, and communications, reduced visibility leading to commuting difficulties and possible traffic disruptions due to heavy snowfall in mid and high hills.
Also issuing advisory for farmers they stated that Livestock owners are advised to keep animals indoors due to low temperatures. Adequate arrangements for heating and lighting are recommended and beekeepers urged to provide winter packing to colonies and artificial food due to flower scarcity.
Advising action for citizens they stated that public is urged to follow traffic advisories. The IMD stated that strict adherence to guidelines issued by concerned departments should be followed from time to time and Commuters and tourists are advised to check for traffic congestion before departing.
Residents are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate the potential impact of the upcoming weather conditions.
