To strengthen the juvenile justice system, the Government of Himachal Pradesh has appointed Social Worker Members to the Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs) across various districts of the state. The appointments were made under Section 4 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and will be effective for a period of three years from the date of issuance of the notification.

The notification, issued by the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, names individuals who will serve as Social Worker Members in their respective districts. These members will play a crucial role in ensuring the welfare, care, and protection of children in conflict with the law and those in need of care and protection.
Among the appointees are Pankaj Kumar from Hamirpur, Kusum Mehla from Bilaspur, and Pushpa Thakur, also from Hamirpur. Other notable appointments include Shaweta Dogra from Kangra, Vimla Negi from Kinnaur, and Virender Singh from Kullu. Additionally, Santosh Kumar from Mandi, Priyanka Khenal from Shimla, Anita Parmar from Sirmour, and Damyanti Sharma from Solan have been nominated to their respective district boards.
The Juvenile Justice Boards are tasked with addressing cases involving juveniles, ensuring that their rights are protected, and providing them with the necessary support for rehabilitation and reintegration into society. The inclusion of experienced social workers is expected to bring a more compassionate and informed approach to handling juvenile cases.
Ashish Singhmar, Secretary of the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, emphasized the importance of these appointments in enhancing the effectiveness of the juvenile justice system in the state. “The appointment of dedicated social workers will ensure that the principles of care, protection, and rehabilitation are upheld in every case involving children,” he stated.
This initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of children, particularly those in vulnerable situations. The newly appointed members are expected to bring their expertise and dedication to the table, contributing to a more just and supportive environment for the youth of Himachal Pradesh.
