HP Govt implements revised tax Rates for contract buses from other States

Effective September 1, 2023, the Himachal Pradesh State Government has recently introduced revised tax rates for contract carriage buses registered in other states, aiming to regulate the taxation of buses entering Himachal Pradesh that do not fall under the All India Tourist Vehicle (Permit) Rules of 2023.
Under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Taxation Act of 1972, the state government has implemented partial modifications to the existing notification. These changes specifically target contract carriage buses registered in other states and buses, excluding those with tourist permits, that enter Himachal Pradesh.
The revised tax rates for contract carriage buses are: Buses with 13 to 32 seats in the categories of ordinary service, semi-deluxe service, and deluxe bus service will be subject to a daily tax rate of Rs 3,000. Air-conditioned bus service will be taxed at a rate of Rs 6,000 per day. For buses with more than 32 seats, the revised tax rates are as follows:
Buses in the ordinary service, semi-deluxe service, and deluxe bus service categories will be subject to a daily tax rate of Rs 4,000. Air-conditioned buses will also be taxed at a rate of Rs 6,000 per day.

In addition to these changes, the revised tax rates will also apply to contract carriage buses registered in other states under the All India Tourist Vehicles (Permit) Rules of 2023. The rates for such buses entering Himachal Pradesh are: Buses with 13 to 32 seats in the ordinary service, semi-deluxe service, and deluxe service categories will be taxed at Rs 3,000 per day, Rs 15,000 per week, and Rs 50,000 per month.
Buses with more than 32 seats in the ordinary service, semi-deluxe service, and deluxe service categories will be subject to a daily tax rate of Rs 4,000, a weekly tax rate of Rs 20,000, and a monthly tax rate of Rs 60,000. These tax rates exclude the driver and air-conditioning charges.
The Transport Department spokesperson emphasized that these revised tax rates aim to ensure fair taxation for contract buses operating within Himachal Pradesh. Bus operators and owners are advised to comply with the updated taxation regulations to avoid penalties or legal implications.
