Lahaul-Spiti district administration has launched a search operation to trace out the 16 trekkers trapped in a Glacier since last two weeks.
Deputy Commissioner Neeraj Kumar said in a press statement here today that the administration has started rescue operation to trace the 16 trekkers trapped in the Khanmigar glacier.
This morning, two members of a 16-member team climbed down to Kaza and informed the Spiti administration that their other comrades were trapped in the Khanmigar glacier, out of which two trekkers had died on the spot and others are stranded.
Spiti administration has formed a 32-member rescue team to rescue the 14 stranded members.
The team comprises of 16 ITBP jawans, 6 Dogra scouts and a doctor. Along with this are included 10 porters who will work as load-bearing during the rescue.
Deputy Commissioner Neeraj Kumar said that on September 15, six members of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, West Bengal had left from Batal to cross the Kaza via Khamingar glacier trek. The team included of 10 potters also. According to the information received by the administration, three trekkers, one Sherpa i.e. local guide and 10 porters are also Khamigar glacier at a height of about 5034 meters.
It will take three days for the rescue team to reach Khamingar. Possibility of helicopter rescue have been speculated but not possible. Therefore thr 32-member rescue team has been formed.
The rescue work would start from Kah village of Pin Valley. On the first day on 28 September, the team will travel fron Kah to Chankanhango, on the second day, from Changthango to Dhar Thango and on the last day the Khamingar Glacier Rescue team will reach from Dharthango.

Other team members are Debashish Bardhan Age 58 Years Milan Park Garia, Kolkata, West Bengal, Ranadhir Rai Age 63 Years Ramkrishna Pali, Kogachi Shyamnagar, Kolkata, West Bengal, Tapas Kumar Das Age 50 Years St 78, QRS 28-3 Chintaranjan Bardhawan, West Bengal and Atul 42-year-old, hails from Kolkata, West Bengal. Along with this, ten potters whose details are yet unknown are also included.
