The District Administration is likely to reopen the 485 km long Manali-Leh National Highway no 3 for 4X4 vehicles by next week. A joint team of officials, including Deputy Commissioner Lahaul-Spiti Rahul Kumar, Police Superintendent Mayank Chaudhary, and Commanding Officer of BRO (70 RCC) Major Ravi Shankar, recently inspected the 4860-meter Baralacha Pass and the last border of the state at Sarchu.
However, heavy snowfall has mounted on the road towards Leh, making it not feasible for light vehicles due to narrow roads and slippery conditions. The joint team has decided that the Border Road Organization will restore the route to light 4×4 vehicles within a week, considering the changing weather.

In a separate incident, an avalanche hit and blocked the Dared and Madgram Nala today, leaving about 100 people and vehicles stranded due to road closures from both sides. The police officials quickly responded and rescued the stranded villagers and ten tourists who were stranded in the snowfall.
Travelers are advised to exercise caution while driving on the Manali-Leh Highway and to check for the latest updates on road conditions before embarking on their journey.
