A massive landslide and subsequent rolling down of huge boulders from a hill near Butsari area of Sangla valley in Kinnaur district cause massive devastation as nine tourists got killed when a boulder hit a tempo traveller on the Sangla-Chhitkul highway.
SHO Sangla said that out of eleven people sitting in a tempo traveller nine were killed and two injured. Eight died on the spot while one succumbed in the hospital. One of the local native was also injured in the mishap. Two videos shot by locals showed that massive landslide occurred near a top of a hill in Sangla valley. The boulders started rolling down the withering hills causing this devastation.
The boulders caused massive devastation on the left bank of Baspa river. It knocked down a massive bridge linking the Sangla and Butsari village. The video showed how a rock hit the bridge and it crumbled in the Baspa river the tributary of Satluj river.Â
At the time of the incident, numerous vehicles were plying on the Sangla Chitkul road on the left and right bank. Â
The hills of Kinnaur district have started withering down, having fragile ecology and jolted by the number of power projects coming in the tribal district. Road mishaps, landslides and cloud bursts have taken about 170 lives during the monsoon season in the state.
In tweet by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has expressed shock over the mishap. He said that the tourist vehicle came under the spate of a boulder in which nine people died and two others were inujured. One local suffered injury in themishap . Thakur expressed the condolence with the family members of those who lost life in this incident.
