Shimla, Sept 2
Rainfall activity is likely to increase from around 3rd Sept (Tomorrow) with a high probability of light to moderate rainfall associated with isolated heavy rainfall from 4th to 5th Sept. The weather department has forecast that there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in the district of Kangra, Chamba, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan Sirmaur, Una, Hamirpur, and Bilaspur during this period. Light to moderate precipitation with isolated heavy falls could also occur at one or two parts of district Kinnaur, stated a press communiqué from the weather department.
The release further added that thereafter rainfall activity is likely to decrease in intensity and distribution from 6th Sept with light to moderate rainfall activity at few places in plains and low & mid hills districts of the State.
“Monsoon activity remained weak to normal during the last week,” stated the release. In this one week, rainfall activity was isolated to scattered with light to moderate rainfall in Himachal Pradesh. The information stated that two spells of heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in the district Kangra and Hamirpur.
The weather department has also advised that during this upcoming spell, there is a high probability of increased runoff in seasonal Nullah and other channels, leading to flashfloods in district Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, Mandi, Kangra, Chamba parts of district Kinnaur, Lahaul & Spiti and adj areas. They added that visibility might be reduced due to low clouds/foggy conditions. Also, a sudden increase in the water level of perennial and rainfed rivers (Sutlej, Beas, Ravi and its tributaries) may be possible. Also, there is a high probability of landslides along roadways (State and National in HP), Railways including vulnerable areas in the State.
The weathermen have advised commuters and tourists to be careful given the above. Adequate safety measures may be taken to avoid impacts on essential services and utilities.
