Rescue party reaches stranded tourists at majestic Chandertal Lake in Lahaul & Spiti in HP
Shimla/Kaza, July 13
In a much-awaited relief, a rescue party has triumphantly arrived at the breathtaking Chandertal camping area to evacuate the 293 tourists and locals who had been marooned there since Sunday, following the devastating impact of record-breaking rainfall in Himachal Pradesh. Overcoming numerous hurdles, Minister Jagat Singh Negi and CPS Sanjay Awasthi displayed remarkable determination and resilience as they labored for a grueling 18 hours, painstakingly clearing the treacherous, snow-covered road to reach Chandertal late at night.
Remarkably, even the Indian Army had declined to undertake the challenging mission, prompting the local administration, along with courageous villagers, to take charge of opening the snowbound route. Led by SDM Harsh Negi, Tehsildar Bhumika Jain, Naib Tehsildar Prem Chand, SHO Sanjay Kumar, TAC member Veer Bhagat, and members of the Losar Mahila Mandal, these valiant individuals, supported by ITBP, BRO, and local residents from Chewang Lidang village and Kulig village, worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of those stranded near the mesmerizing crescent-shaped Chandertal Lake, nestled amidst the majestic Himalayas at an awe-inspiring elevation of 14,100 feet.
