Tragic trekking mishap claims life of Bihar IAS in Dodra-Kwar, Himachal Pradesh

In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded amidst the picturesque terrains of Dodra-Kwar, a popular trekking destination through Rupin pass in Himachal Pradesh, a 54-year-old IAS visitor from Bihar tragically lost his life during a tracking expedition. Identified as Jitendra Prasad Sah, hailing from Digwara, Seetalpur Saran, Bihar, met with a fatal accident when he lost his balance on the treacherous path and fell into the deep gorge of Sharwan Khadd. Despite prompt medical attention, Sah succumbed to his severe injuries on the spot.
The unfortunate incident came to light when Goverdhan Singh, Vice-Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Jakha, immediately contacted the authorities at the Police Post Dodra-Kwar, Chirgaon, to report the incident. Responding promptly, local officials launched an investigation and initiated the necessary proceedings to ascertain the details of the accident and ensure appropriate measures were taken.
Preliminary findings indicate that Sah had arrived in Dodra-Kwar two days earlier as part of a five-member group from Bihar, all of whom were male. Additionally, there were sixteen other individuals from different parts of the country who were participating in the tracking expedition. The excursion was organized by a renowned hiking and adventure travel company, catering to thrill-seekers and nature enthusiasts.

Authorities have emphasized that, at present, there is no evidence suggesting any foul play or suspicious circumstances surrounding Sah’s tragic demise. The cause of death has been attributed to the severe head injuries sustained in the fall. The autopsy, conducted at CHC Sandasu on June 26, 2023, confirmed the accidental nature of the fatality.
After the completion of the postmortem examination, the body of the deceased was handed over to Sah’s friends. Ram Bhushan Singh, accompanied by Dr. Ramesh Kumar, a Joint Secretary in the Bihar Government’s Industry department and a PCS Officer, received the body to facilitate its final journey back to Beyur, Tehsil Fulwari, District Patna, Bihar, Sah’s ancestral village.
Local authorities have initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident. Dodra-Kwar, known for its breathtaking landscapes and renowned trekking trails, attracts adventurers from all corners of the country. This incident serves as a solemn reminder of the inherent risks associated with outdoor activities and the significance of taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of participant.
