US National detained for public nuisance on Shimla Ridge
Shimla, June 19
A United States national was detained by Shimla Police on Friday after a video showing him allegedly behaving indecently and making objectionable gestures towards people at the historic Ridge Maidan went viral on social media.
According to a police press note, the video drew widespread attention online, prompting the police to take immediate cognizance of the matter. Acting swiftly, police identified the individual seen in the video and apprehended him.
The foreign national was booked under Section 114 of the Himachal Pradesh Police Act for public nuisance and indecent behaviour. Police said the action was taken to maintain public order and ensure that inappropriate conduct in public places does not go unchecked.

The incident reportedly occurred at the Ridge, one of Shimla’s most prominent tourist attractions that attracts large numbers of visitors, including families and tourists, throughout the year.
Shimla Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a safe and respectful environment in public spaces. The police also appealed to both residents and tourists to conduct themselves responsibly and maintain decency while visiting public places.
“Any act that disturbs public peace and order will be dealt with strictly as per law,” the police said in its advisory.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
