Devbhoomi Himachal witnessed widespread protest in every nook and corner of the state as the farmers unions from various political outfits baring BJP came in support of Nation wide call of protest by more than 250 farmers unions.
Report coming here that farmers braving the cold wave turned in large numbers in small townships like Rohru, Kumersen, Theog , Rampur, Ani in Kullu, Sainj , Hamirpur, Ponata Sahib, Nahan, Nohradhar ,Dharamshala
Dharamshala, Jogindernagar Mandi, Balah, Janjayali, Dharmpur, Una, Solan, Chamba, Nalagarh, Gumerwin and Bilaspur and other places.
The state Government press release confirmed that farmer sat in on a Dharna and lodged protest against new agriculture laws. After Dec8 Bharat Band this was another major protest by farmer and its outfits in the state.
More than 300 farmers gathered at Dhalpur ground in Kullu as the protest was attended by the left Kissan Union Himachal Kissan Sabha, Democratic Youth Federation of India, Central Indian Trade Union, All India Democratic Woman association.
In Shimla district farmer protest was spread in four places as main protest held at Central Teligraph Office outside Deputy Commissioner Shimla Office in which around 150 farmers and workers and protesters took part.
CPI(M) legislators and President of HP Seb Utpadak Sangh Rakesh Singah who is prominent apple growers of Kotgarh lead the protest at Theog where large number of activists belonged to Himachal Kissan Sabha and farmers gathered to support the call of All India protest.
President of HKS Hitesh Hasta of Rampur and Bihari Sahyogi of CITU attended the protest at Rampur in presence of hundreds of supporters.
Nalagarh the adjoining area of Solan district with Roparh district of Punjab on Monday also witnessed strong protests by the led by Gurucharan Singh president of Kissan Majdoor Sangarh Samiti BBN. On Dec 8 more than 2000 farmers and workers staged protest which was also attended by the Congress party activist.
There are report of gathering of large number of farmers at Ani in Kullu, Nirmand, Nadaun in Hamirpur, Jogindernagar in Mandi, Beethal in Kumarsen of Shimla and Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur of the state. Various non poltical outfits and farmers also gathered in Rohru,Sainj, Hamirpur, Nahan, Nohradhar, Dharmshala , Mandi, Balh, Janjahli, Dharmpur in Mandi, Solan, Chamba , Ghumerwin and Bilapsur.
Number of memorandum were submitted to the respective Deputy Commissioner and SDMs to repeal the anti farmers farm law by the farmer unions.
Ginger report from Sirmour not favoring the bills
Many farmers of Sirmaur district are facing burnt of new farmers reforms. A report coming from Nahan said that prices of Ginger which is cash crop of farmers in the Kharif season fell down to record low.
The ground reality is in-front of local administration and state government as farmers are forced to sell the Ginger crop at the rate of Rs 10 per kilogram. The prices of Ginger came down to ten from Rs 20 in last fortnight. Even as the market retail price of Ginger has not came down below Rs 60 to 70 but the decline in the demand has forced hundreds of farmers to store the ginger to have good price. The Crops which could not be stored is being sold on the at the throw away price of Rs 10 to Rs 15 in the whole sale markets. Ginger does not fall under the essential items or being pay MSP to farmers.
Solan, Shimla and Sirmaur are emerging as new center of production of off seasonal vegetables as the Agriculture contributed about 15 per cent to state GDP.
