Shimla, Nov 19, 2020
Out of the total 4.70 lakh, people tested in the state so far, as many as 31401, have been confirmed infected with COVID-19 which is 6.67 percent. The rate of positive cases in the hill state is almost at par with the National rate i.e around 7% (data till Nov 17, 2020).
This was stated by the State Programme Officer of Information Education and Communication National Health Mission of Himachal Pradesh in a press statement issued to media here today.
The rate of positive cases provides data about the current level of SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus) transmission in the state. Experts term even 6.67percent high. They inform that as a rule of thumb, one threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is 5%. Pertinent to mention that the World Health Organization in May this year had recommended that when the percent positive remains below 5% for at least two weeks then perhaps governments should consider reopening. Indicating that to further relax social restrictions and allow very large gatherings or meetings of people traveling from many different areas, the goal should be to lower this threshold.
“We can save ourselves and society from infection by being aware. Instead of being afraid or confused, the need is to remain alert, ” the statement advised the general public.
It is being noted that during ongoing festive days most people are inviting the possibility of corona infection by ignoring vigilance and safe behavior.
According to the World Health Organization, the coronavirus can spread by a very fine particle of sputum released from an infected person’s coughing or sneezing. These particles contain the coronavirus. These viral particles can enter your body by way of breath when approaching an infected person.
Human lungs are the place in the body from where oxygen supply is provided to the body, and carbon dioxide is released. But Coronavirus creates a small air sac where the water starts settling in and due to it, one has difficulty in breathing. Such is the situation when the patient needs a ventilator. Giving this information Secretary (Health) Amitabh Awasthi called upon the public to adopt regular safety practices to increase their immunity and if any symptoms appear, then without any confusion or panic, make sure to check for COVID-19 as soon as possible to control the chances of infection.
He said that the state government is taking every preventive and remedial measure to deal with the pandemic. Adding, that now the investigative capacity has also been enhanced in the state. So far, an investigation of 470540 cases of the corona has been completed in the state, in which 31401 cases have been reported positive. The rate of positive cases in the state is 6.67 percent.
“It should be our effort to reduce this rate further,” urged Awasthi. This will be possible only when all citizens comply with the guidelines specified by the government.
