As strongly assumed in circles Sanjay Kundu has been appointed as the Director General of Police Himachal Pradesh. Kundu a 89 batch IPS officer is currently posted as Principal secretary to Chief Minister along with holding charge of various other state government departments.
Kundu earlier served as Joint Secretary in the Water Resources Ministry, GoI where the work included policy, planning, river development and conflict management. Held additional charge of Chairman of Brahmaputra Board; Chairman & Managing Director of NPCC (PSU); Director General-National Water Development Agency (inter-linking of rivers); and Mission Director-National Water Mission (water & climate change).
As a Police Commissioner within the UN System, carried out works related to national capacity building, conflict mitigation, human rights, protection of civilians and humanitarian support.
In the State, served as ADGP- Law & Order, IGP-L&O, District Superintendent of Police in Bhiwani, Bilaspur, Mandi, Chamba & Kangra. Served in BSF, MHA as IG (Ops, Air Wing, Administration, Training & Intelligence) and DIG/ Sector Commander in Bikaner, North Tripura & Srinagar (J & K).
He will take charge from SR Mardi who is scheduled to retire today. ‘He will take charge wef 30-5-20 as 31-5-20 is a holiday, reads the order from Chief Secretary of the state.
