Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee condemned the registration of FIR against veteran
Journalist Vinod Dua booking him in a sedition case and other charges by a BJP leader of Himachal Pradesh recently.
Congress state president Kuldeep Singh Rathore while addressing media here today said, that the sedition case on noted Indian Journalist amounts to a attack on the fourth pillar of Democracy.
”The way BJP spokesman is targeting senior journalists like Dua and other people exposed the hidden agenda of the ruling party which tentamounts attacking freedom of press and fourth pillar of democracy, ” added Rathore.
” The way BJP leaders are trying to muzzle the voice media persons which would not be tolerated by the Congress party and would oppose any such move,” he further added.
“As soon as it came to my notice that FIR was lodged against Dua under sedation charges (124a of IPC) I wrote a letter to Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur condemning the police action,” stated Rathore. He charged that similar FIRs are being filed against Dua in other places by BJP spokesman under the same design.
” As the ruling and opposition are the part of Indian Democracy so is the media. The fourth pillar could not be targeted by the ruling like this.” stressed Rathore.
” During the COVID-19 coverage about half dozen FIRs have been lodged in the state against media persons which showed the insensitivity of the ruling party and government.
The ruling party leaders are trying to malign the image of media persons and opposition leaders in the eyes of people, but their plan would not succeed. He said that such tactics are being made to divert the attention of people from the basic issues and failures of the Government to handle the Pandemic.
