Deputy Commissioner Kritika Kulhari has banned all types of unauthorized tourism and commercial activities in Ashwani Khad and its entire catchment area in Solan district. This restriction has been imposed in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 144 of the Criminal Penal Code. Orders have been issued in this regard.
According to orders, a complete ban has been imposed on running and setting up of food stalls,
kiosks, dhabas, hotels etc. on the banks of Ashwani Khad as there is possibility of contamination of water
There is also a complete ban on organizing activities like bathing and picnics in the river.
It is strictly forbidden to throw any kind of garbage on the banks of the river or in the water.
It has been clarified in the orders that the source of drinking water for Solan city and surrounding areas is Ashwani Khad and it is necessary that this source of drinking water should be kept completely clean and safe. Prohibited activities can prove to be fatal to health and there is also a possibility of spreading epidemics.
It has been clarified in the orders that for the protection of environment and water and life and property, section 144 of the Criminal Penal Code has been implemented on the banks of Ashwani Khad in the periphery of Solan district. Under this, taking bath, washing the car and spreading plastic waste and other dirt is prohibited in Ashwani Khad.
It has been clarified in the orders that the cases of contamination of the water of Ashwani Khad and setting up of food stalls inside the river and along the river bed have mostly been visible in Sadhupul located on the Kandaghat-Chail road.
In view of such circumstances, it is necessary that any activity which contaminates water should
be banned. Instructions have been given to the Superintendent of Police, Solan to ensure full compliance of these orders.
Additional police force should be deployed if required. Instructions have been given to Chief Medical Officer Solan and Executive Engineer of Jal Shakti Department to conduct surprise inspections.
Sub-Divisional Officer Kandaghat, Executive Magistrate Kandaghat (Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar) have been instructed that proper publicity should be made in this regard and surprise inspections should be carried out in the entire area with police force so that the orders are strictly complied with.
Legal action will be taken against the culprits for violation of these orders. These orders have come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force for a period of two months.
