Updated Shimla, Feb 23

Indra Gandhi Medical College Hospital Shimla Administeration on Monday stated that exact cause of death of Aganwari worker who died on Sunday, could be revealed after having pathological autopsy report. This was stated by the IGMC SHIMLA senior medical superintendent Dr Janak Raj while addressing media person.

Denying speculation of death caused due to Covid Vaccine he said that victim was never tested positive for nCoV.

Prima facie report of her treatment after having Covid Vaccine on Jan 29 indicates that she died after complication of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) a nurilogical disease which agrevated to multiple nurigical organ disorder.
He said as per clinical diagnosis the health worker was diagnosed with Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS).
After she was diagnosed, was referred to Medical College Tanda, where her condition did not improve. Therefore she had to be put on ventilator support, She was rushed to IGMC She further complained multi-organ failure, finally she passed away after renal- shutdown.
Dr Janak said that every year five to six such cases are reported in IGMC and it could lead death if patient is hospitalized in late condition.
During the course of treatment patient also tested positive for CMV however prima-facia evidence available so far, we could not say that the death happened due to any reaction or side-effect of COVID vaccination, stated Dr Janakraj adding that even consumption of Paracetamol could cause death if body immune system reacted adversely after consumption.

Talking about side-effects he reiterated that all vaccinations or medicine have their side-effects “Even the most common drug penicillin’ has its side-effects, he added.

He said so it will be too early to state whether or not she suffered due to any side-effect of the COVID vaccine.

Frontline worker got first shot of Covid vaccine on Jan 29 this year. However derailment in health was reported by her first time on Feb 6, when she visited Hamirpur health facility, where she was diagnosed GBS. So it shall not be correct to report that the incumbent suffered due to any reaction/side-effect of the vaccine.

Besides, talking about the vaccine he stated that just like after administration of vaccination it takes around 2 weeks for antibodies to build-up. Similarly it should take time to build any such side-effects, he reasoned.

As per Government of India guidelines, a post-mortem of the lady is being done. The post-mortem shall also conclude pathological findings in this case as prescribed by the GoI, he added.

The results of the same can be shared only after more than 2 weeks time, he stated
