The state unit of CPI(M) hailed the remarks made by the former Supreme Court Justice Deepak Gupta who belongs to the capital town in a TV discussion about the arrest of Environmental activist Disha Rav in the alleged ‘toolkit’ controversy.

Himachal Pradesh CPI(M) Secretary Dr Onkar Shad said that activist was charged with draconian sedition laws in a facist fashion by the Delhi Police. “It is against the freedom of expression and she should be immediately released,” he demanded.
Referring to the ‘toolkit’ controversy framed by the Delhi Police to charge the activist on frivolous ground Dr Shad said that the former Judge of Supreme Court Justice Deepak Gupta stated on the national TV that ‘toolkit’ has nothing with the Violence or incitement and it could not be seditious.
Dr Shad alleged that the Modi-Shah Government is trying to rule the country by undue use of police. The state could not arrest the activist in such unlawful fashion without securing transit bound of the activists and which is breach of fundamental rights of the young women, he added.
The retired justice who is unbiased and legal luminary made the remarks on the arrest of Disha Ravi should be an eye openers to the draconian rulers of today, he stated. He said that Justice Gupta’s concern about invoking sedition law in the matter, vindicates the similar concerns being raised by Opposition parties also.
The activist(s) could raise their voice against the farm laws in support of farmers. After booking her in the alleged toolkit controversy, her freedom of expression has been breached by the police which is expected to serve as the law enforcement agency, said the CPI( M) leader.
Dr Shad said that Union Government did not learn anything from the observations made by the Supreme Court about the peaceful rights of protest of farmers however it is trying to counter the popular movements of ryots by fair and unfair means resorting to extra constitutional measures like the arrest of Disha.
He said that sedition laws are being continuously invoked against political adversary of Modi Government. Regularly updates are being reported about cases on Writers, Free thinkers, Media persons, Activists and uprights people who are criticising the government policies and action, on similar charges.
“Party is with the farmers and the victims of state repression which perhaps has taken an ugly turn and that too at a time, when people are facing the burden of skyrocketing price rise in Petrol, LPG and other daily need essential,” he added.
