Braving extreme coldwave and minus 15 to minus 20 degrees temperatures as many as 17 tourists are stranded in different areas of Lahaul and Spiti district, said the district administration. Adding that six Italians are stranded at Kee monestry and rest others in three homestay units.
Superintendent of police Mayank Chaudhar visited various vulnerable heavy snow affected areas to acess the possibility of more avalanches in the district.
He said that 17 tourists are stranded in Kaza including six foreigners. Information was received from a shop from Spiti subdivision on Monday. Among the tourists who are staying at Snow Flax homestay at Kaza include Amit, Vikas, Anil, Tushir, Naveen Rana, Manish, Deepak Malik and Rehnat
In Dankar home stay, Jatin Dhare, Pratit Pingle, Vijay Jawwalker and in Soulful Spiti home stay Shubhra Mittal.
At Kee monestry Italian Nationals Andrea Marzzoleni, Marco Montanar, Nicolo Grimaudo, Susanna Molteni, Veronica Acoia and Tiziana Landoni are staying. Message of well being has been sent through V-Sat to their lov3d ones.
He said that after getting information from the family members of the snowbound tourists, they have been contacted.
The mobile connectivity is also affected by heavy snowfall in the subdivision. Beside this other tourist may be at Kibber, Chicham, Kangcga and Tabo. Since there is no road and mobile connectivity at these places as with improvement in weather conditions communication would be made functional
Administration said that border road organisation has deployed JCB and snowcutters to open the road, Also workforce have Ben deployed to repair mobile connectivity in snowbound areas. Due to the 60 hour long snow blizzard and heavy snowfall road and communication services have got snapped and information is being conveyed through wireless satelite phone and walky talky.

As per inputs received from BRO, a Machine is deputed by BRO for restoration of road from Sumdo to Lari, second Machine is deputed by BRO for restoration from Lari towards Kaza and the machine which was deputed by BRO for restoration of road from Kaza towards Tabo has not done road restoration today due to mechanical failure.
Light and communication network are not available yet. Although overall situation remains peaceful.
