The announcement of his name was made by BJP national president JP Nadda on Wednesday. The post had fallen vacant following resignation by Dr Rajiv Bindal, who served as the state unit president for about four months. The names of several leaders, including Vidhan Sabha Speaker Vipin Parmar, sitting Rajya Sabha member Indu Goswami, political adviser to Chief Minister Trilok Jamwal and Sundernagar MLA Rakesh Jamwal were doing the rounds. However, BJP high command appointed a younger partyman, some seniors say that a junior pertyman, Suresh Kashyap as state party chief that surprised all.Kashyap began his political journey from a grass-root panchayat level, then he went on to contest Assembly elections thrice and after that won Lok Sabha elections in May 2019.Dr Bindal had in May last submitted his resignation from the post, seemingly to uphold high moral ground, after an audio recording was made viral that led to the arrest of the then Director of Health Services to facilitate free and fair investigation into the matter.Dr Bindal in his resignation sent to party high command had said that fingers are being raised on the BJP after the arrest of the former DHS, being the president of the party, he felt that the matter should be investigated properly without any pressure, so he was submitting his resignation keeping in view the high moral values.
