Manali-Chandigarh NH blocked after landslide
Shimla, Feb 12
A landslide has blocked the Manali-Chandigarh National Highway-3, near panchmile in Mandi. The district administration have diverted vehicular traffic on alternative roads.
Superintendent of police Mandi Shalini Agnihotri said that a massive landslide came down on the NH at panch mile since heavy boulders and rocks fell on the road. The vehicular traffic has been suspended.
Heavy Machinary have been deployed to remove the debris. The highway is expected to be restored very soon.
The SP said that small vehicles could travel via Katola from Mandi to Manali and small vehicles could travel from Manali to Delhi via Chalchownk. Large vehicles may have to wait for the highway to be restored.
In fact, the work of making the National Highway four-lane is going on in Mandi. According to the SP, landslides occur due to the widening of the road for fourlane. Due to the landslide, people are stuck in the jam for hours and are likely to open in next 2-3hours.
