Shimla, Nov 2,
A tragic road accident occurred near Narkanda in Shimla district late on Saturday night when a Tempo Traveller carrying 33 passengers of Nepali origin met with an accident, leaving one person dead and several others injured.
According to district authorities, the injured were immediately rescued and shifted to Civil Hospital, Kumarsain, for initial treatment. Out of the total, 16 critically injured persons — including eight women, seven men, and one child — were later referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla for advanced medical care. The remaining 17 passengers received treatment at Kumarsain Hospital and were later discharged.
Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap visited IGMC today to inquire about the condition of the injured and assured them of all possible assistance from the state government. He stated that officials from the Kumarsain and Rampur administrations are closely monitoring the situation and ensuring proper medical care.
“The Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has expressed deep sorrow over the accident and directed the authorities to provide the best possible treatment to the victims. A dedicated team of doctors has been deployed to oversee their recovery,” Kashyap said.
The accident site witnessed an immediate rescue operation by the police, local administration, and residents. Preliminary reports suggest the vehicle may have lost control on a sharp curve, though the exact cause is being investigated.
During his hospital visit, the Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) Pankaj Sharma, DSP Naresh Sharma, and Tehsildar (Shimla Rural) Sanjeev Gupta, among other officials.
Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution on steep and slippery stretches of the Hindustan-Tibet Road, especially during the winter season when visibility and road conditions often deteriorate.
