Kullu, May 30
A house was reduced to ashes in Shakti village of Gadaparli Panchayat in Sainj Valley on Saturday after a fire broke out around 8 a.m. The loss is estimated to be worth several lakhs of rupees.
The flames spread rapidly, making it difficult for villagers to control the blaze. At the time of the incident, most men were away for work and only women were present in the village. By the time villagers returned, the house had been engulfed in flames.
The house also housed the local deity Rai Nag, and several ceremonial belongings were destroyed in the fire. However, the deity’s mohra was recovered from the debris after the fire was extinguished.
Ward Member Lata Devi said the house was completely gutted and the family could not save any belongings. No casualties were reported.
Banjar SDM Pankaj Sharma said an administrative team has been sent to assess the damage and provide relief. As Shakti village is located about 20 kilometres from the nearest road, officials will have to trek nearly six to seven hours to reach the site.
The Fire Department could not reach the village due to the absence of road connectivity. The remote village also lacks mobile network services, making communication and emergency response difficult.
