A young man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the abandoned Hazel Mere building near the girls’ hostel of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) in Summerhill, Shimla, on Sunday morning. Police suspect suicide.
According to preliminary information, the deceased has been identified as an Assistant Professor from Kharar (Chandigarh). A bag, mobile phone, and an identification card confirming his employment were recovered from the spot.
Local sources informed that the incident might have occurred some time ago, but the matter came to light only this morning when locals noticed the body and alerted the police.
A police team immediately reached the spot, took possession of the body, and began the investigation.
While the reason behind the suspected suicide remains unclear, the police are probing all possible angles — including professional, personal, and psychological factors. Questions are being raised as to why the young man, who was reportedly working in Kharar, chose this isolated location near the university to end his life.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, and a case has been registered. Police officials said further details would be known after the investigation and forensic examination are complete.
