A young male leopard was found succumbed to  injury at Nalto area of Hiranagar under Taradevi Forest range the outskirt of this capital town, confirmed senior forest officer.

Divisional Forest Officer Sunil Rana said that a fresh carcass of two to three year old male was leopard recovered from Nalto area of Hiranagar beside a link road on the outskirt of Shimla town this morning. A complaint was received from local people, thereafter it was found.

A team reached the spot and found a young leopard died having a initial injury caused by other leopard. The animal was brought to Wild Animal Rehabilitation center where after an autopsy it was cremated as per protocol.

Rana said that a report of autopsy showed bullet injuries appeared on the carcass as gun powder was also recovered from the wound. DFO said that after the postmortem report two teams were rushed to the spot again to trace the impression or used pellets/bullets or cartridge from the spot or in the jungle.

We now investigating the alleged killing of leopard from poaching angle after the postmortem report, the official said.

Entire Hiranagar area near suburb Totu houses thick Oak forests and is also thickly populated. Many times leopards are witnessed in the area here during the night hours. These animals come here to prey on the dogs.
