Both parties Congress and BJP are staking claim of victory in the ULB polls concluded on Sunday. Where on one hand Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur stated here today that BJP supported candidates had won 22 Nagar Parishads out of 29 and 18 Nagar Panchayats out of 21. On the other hand Congress state chief Kuldeep Rathore stated that the party won almost 70 precent of the total ULB seats.
JaiRam Thakur said that victory of party vindicated the faith of the people in the policies and programmes of the present State Government, who initiated numerous welfare schemes and development oriented projects in the State.
Whereas addressing a press conference here today Congress state President Rathore claimed that including Shimla, Mandi, Solan, Kangra, Chamba and Kullu districts. The party supported candidates emerged victorious in number of Nagar Panchayat and Municipal Councils as they got clear majority in many Urban Local Bodies and also succeed to win by wafer thin majority in number of local bodies, stated the Congress state chief.
Polling for for 50 Urban Local bodies in the state was concluded on Sunday, whereafter results were announced till MOnday afternoon.
Rathore added that the party succeeded to win election Parwanoo, Arki, Theog, Kumersen, Rampur, Rohru, Mandi and other urban local bodies defeating BJP supported candidates. Rathore said that the claims of BJP to sweep the ULBs poll is not true and highly misleading. The party also blamed ruling party to also influence the election to favour
Meanwhile Jai Ram Thakur said that electoral process displayed the faith of people in democracy at the grass root level. He said that the BJP supported candidates have won a majority of wards in these Urban Local Bodies.
Pertinent to mention that the ULBs polls were held without party symbol, so establishing link of affiliation of between a candidate and political party can be uphill task.
