Shimla, Feb 15
The Kasumpti unit of CPI(M) in Himachal Pradesh has demanded extension of delimitation exercise of Shimla Municipal Corporation seeking more time for filling of objections.
In a press statement issued here today Satyavan Pundir Secretary CPIM Kasumpti party Unit demanded extension of time following prevailing of lot of confusion about the voters of Panchayats and SMC.
Physical verification of voter lists should be done by the poltical parties before filling objections related to re-demarcation of wards of SMC.
“There are many booths in this which are part of both rural and municipal corporations. ” he stated.
There are many voters in this who live outside the municipal corporation in the panchayat area, their vote is also in the list of the municipal corporation.
Terming the time frame set by the government to file objections insufficient he said that number of days of this process fall on the holidays.
Since delimitation draft published by district administeration gives no idea about actual boundaries of the ward, it is becoming difficult to register an objection. Till boundaries of the wards are not properly known and its maps are not prepared, they could not fill a rational objection in this process.
Urging State Election Commission to extend the deadline Satyavan said that he would meet the state election commissioner on Thursday. He alleged that lot of discrepancies prevail in the draft regarding falling of voters in the wards.
He also asked district administration and Election Commission to take suo moto cognizance on his demand.
