A former CPS and Congress MLA from Jawali Neeraj Bharti and nine others have been arrested by the police last evening for allegedly indulging in the breach of peace after altercation between two groups of Congress leaders in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, informed a Senior police officer.
Superintendent of police Kangra Khushal Thakur said that including Neeraj Bharti, a total of 10 people have been arrested by the police as they were trying to a disturb the peace in Dharamshala last evening. They were detained till 2 am this morning and released on bail by the magistrate .
He said that ten people who are reported supporters of former CPS Neeraj Bharti and former minister Sudhir Sharma tried to breach the peace in Dharmshala after some altercation and minor exchanges between them.
Tensions developed after the two group belonging to former MLA Sudhir Sharma and Bharti over pieces of land on Friday.
Background of the matter
Bharti who has invited controversies over his social media posts previously in other cases, went on Facebook Live on Friday stating that he was given challenge to come to Dharamsala. Immediately he reached at Kand Kadiana area of Kangra district and shared another inflammatory post on the social media challenging the rivals ” anyone could come to meet him, he is at Dharmshala”.
After the post went viral, four people belonging to Dharamshala and Shahpur tehsil reached Kand Kadiana. There was a slight altercation between both the sides, which was reported to the police. DSP Baldev Sharma reached the spot of the team. Later, the police arrested 10 people, including former CPS Neeraj Bharti, for disturbing the peace and brought them to the police station Dharamsala.
SPÂ confirmed the arrest stated that six people were were with Bharti, while four people from the other side have been booked under Section 107/151 CrPC and arrested them.
Due to further action, all of them will be produced before the Executive Magistrate who were released after submitting surety bonds.
Accused Neeraj Bharti, Anurag Dogra, Sujal Kumar, Pankaj Sharma, Jwali resident of Rajindra Kumar and Vikramjit, resident of Kawanri of Nagrota Bagwan are included.
Kanchan Kumar resident Khaniyara, Ashwani Rana resident Balehad, Raman Kumar resident Dadi Dharamshala and Shahpur sub-division resident Virendra Kumar have been arrested.
Neeraj Bharti is the son of Chandra Kumar, MP from Kangra. He was an MLA in the Congress government from 2012 to 2017. He has often remains in the headlines over his controversial posts on the FB. Former Congress MP Chander Kumar tried to defend his son that altercation happen between the two groups over a land issue.
