Today when the whole world is suffering from an epidemic like Coronavirus, thanks to our ancient traditional practices and Ayurveda, India though not yet untouched by this epidemic still is in much better condition as compared to other countries all over the globe.
Making people connect back to one’s own roots, Students for Development (SFD) Himachal Pradesh has started a campaign across the state from 22 May to 31 May 2020 in the name of #SelfieWithHerbalPlants, to create awareness among the people about the Ayurveda – one of the most renowned traditional systems of medicine that has survived and flourished times immemorial. With the enormous knowledge of nature-based medicine, the relationship of the human body constitution and function to nature and the elements of the universe that act in coordination and affect the living beings, this system will continue to flourish in ages still to come.
In this campaign, all students of SFD and people from various sections of the society are involved where they appeal to all people to plant any medicine and quality plant in the courtyard, or around the house. They are encouraging people by asking them to take a selfie or make a video clip while planting the plant with a brief description of the medicinal value of the plant; that can inspire others as well by creating awareness about Indian antiquity and culture along with important medicines and herbs that can do wonders for human’s health.
This campaign was inaugurated online by Prof. Nagesh Thakur (Professor of Physics, Himachal Pradesh University, former National President ABVP and member of UGC) by making a video of the plant plantation in his house.
While informing about the campaign, Dr. Nitin Vyas, the regional head of the Students for Development said that all the efforts made by doctors and scientists from all over the world have so far failed to bear fruits to find the cure for the coronavirus. Today, in the era of this epidemic, the whole world is adopting Indian culture and eternal culture, today the whole world has accepted Namaste and accepted Ayurveda.
SFD appeals to every household to connect with this initiative and know the value of herbs and plants that are available right in front of their eyes and do not even cost much. He requested that all plant medicinal plants in their house and become a part of #SelfieWithHerbalPlants from your social media account so that it reaches out to every section of the society and everyone knows about the quality and benefits of Indian medicines, he added further.
So far more than 500 people all over the state have joined the campaign and made a difference in the lives of many by imparting knowledge on the benefits of different plants that are grown in every Indian courtyard since time immemorial. During this pandemic, our old traditional values and systems is passing a litmus test for many when nothing else seems to work.
