Due to the current lockdown arising out of Corona outbreak, all passenger train services have also been suspended on the world heritage narrow gauge Kalka-Shimla section. Ambala division DRM G.M. Singh said it was noticed that water consumption has increased on the Kalka-Shimla section due to more water usage for precautionary steps such as hand washing regularly, cleaning/sanitization of tools & station building and staff quarters etc.
Keeping it in view and in wake of oncoming summer season, a workmen/water train comprising one water tank coach and one SLR coach has been started to run between Kalka-Shimla stations on alternate days. Today on first run, train departed from kalka at 08.15 hrs and will leave Shimla tomorrow at 10.00 hrs so on and so forth till the normal train services are restored within section.
Singh apprised that this train will provide water services to staff at level crossings , stations and railway accommodations etc enroute so that their needs of water consumption may be catered. Moreover staff will avail this train services to work in the section.
