Union Minister for Road Transport and Highway arrived at Kullu today on a three day state tour. He was welcomed by the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur at Bhuntar Airport.
Gadkari who had announced as many as 68 national highway during the Modi-1 tenure is likely to review the progress of central roads projects as most of the Road projects could not be commissioned after seven years of approval. Number of road projects which were declared by the Central Government before Assembly elections in 2017 in Himachal could not move forward and BJP government was criticised by the Opposition party.
Besides, Gadkari is also likely to enjoy the cool and reliving stay in the state tourist resorts when the rest of the place’s facing sweltering heat wave hitting the plain.
The state visit of the Union minister is also important in wake of the upcoming byelection in the Mandi parliamentary constituency and two assembly elections for Fathepur and Jubbal and Kotkhai constituency to be held shortly.
Baring Union minister for state Anurag Thakur this is first visit of any senior cabinet leader of the Modi Govt after the 2nd wave of Covid pandemic.
The State decided to open the entry points and road-rail and air transport after the improvement in the Covid 2nd wave which hit most of districts badly since April to early June this year.
The development works and government projects also are affected by the Corona Curfew and transport restrictions in the state.
Hospitality and Transport is most affected during the Covid pandemic and state agriculture and informal economy suffered a lot over sudden decline of demands of vegetables and fruits. Tourist footfall during peak summer season was nil during last three months.
During the period many spells of rain and early rainy season has also effected the schedule of road tarring works which largely, could not be done this year.
State BJP leadership likely to raise the issues of people with Union minister during his three day stay in the state.
